The programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc are centered on the 5 Point Program Thrust. Below are just examples of programs under each thrust. Feel free to share with us your ideas for programs that may be highlighted in the future on this page.

Educational Development

Delta Academy II: Delta GEMS (Growing & Empowering Myself Successfully)

Delta GEMS is an outgrowth and continuation of the Delta Academy Program. Through its goals, Delta Gems provides the framework for high school girls ages 14-18 to actualize the dreams Delta Academy was designed to catch.

Goals:

  • To instill in girls the need to excel academically
  • To provide tools that will enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success
  • To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures – high school and beyond
  • To create compassionate, caring and community-minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities

Economic Development

“Financial Fortitude”

Financial planning and literacy are the goals of the “Financial Fortitude.” Chapters are encouraged to conduct workshops in the area of debt management/reduction, retirement, college education financing, investing, insurance, estate planning, home ownership and savings. A “Financial Fortitude” manual has been developed to assist with implementation in the community

Physical & Mental Health

The Total Woman: Mind Body and Spirit
Lifestyle Change Initiative
Implemented by the Health Taskforce, the Lifestyle Change initiative focuses on the achievement and maintenance of “healthy weight/take the weight off” program. Every chapter member is asked to loose 5lbs. The chapter that looses the most weight will be awarded.

American Heart Association Partnership “Go Red for Women” Campaign

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is the first sorority to join the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” Campaign an organizational alliance that works to educate women on heart disease.

Political Awareness and Involvement

Delta Days at the Nation’s Capitol
Delta Sigma Theta’s first act of service was that of Social Action. Chapter members should aggressively promote attendance at Delta Days In the Nation's Capital at the Nation’s Capitol in 2006. Collegiate chapters should begin speaking to University student organization offices to secure funding for this very important component of being a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

International Awareness and Involvement

Summit VI: Health Issues Impacting Women of African Descent - Jamaica Conference

One Heart, One Love, Come to Jamaica and Feel All Right! This week-end long conference will aim to inform and education African American woman on the topics that include obesity, sexual abuse, genital mutilation, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, breast/cervical and ovarian cancers just to name a few.
